Who do you speak to when you’re reflecting on a possible career change?
The coronavirus pandemic has offered an opportunity to self-analyse. Particularly when it comes to our careers. There has been a complete overhaul to our working lives. This now sees entire sectors based on home working, but also rising levels of job insecurity.
Changes during a global pandemic
In 2020, there has been a national trend for a vast reduction in the availability of permanent roles. Down 70%, and a slight increase in interim roles – up 15%. At Insight, we have been fortunate to see our interim market maintain at the same rate and a large uptick in our permanent placements. It has been attributed to an increasing portion of our candidate pool turning to the security of permanent work at a time when some of the plus points of interim work have been diminished.
None of this could be achieved without the hard work of our staff who have been exemplary in displaying the techniques and working practices that Insight was built upon.
Our consultants are encouraged to become trusted experts in their fields. Far beyond simply ‘getting the deal done’. The team keeps conversations going with our clients and candidates. They are continually learning about their shifting requirements and changes to the market.
We also encourage a flexible, fluid way of working between our teams. We are allowing them to share knowledge as well as clients and candidates. This ties into our continued investment in training for our staff. This is where new ways of communicating and recruiting are constantly discussed.
Our principles we were founded on…
The heart of the company is driven by mine, and fellow director Nick’s desire to do recruitment differently. From the beginning, we wanted to build relationships and trust. Truly getting to know our networks, and to work alongside our consultants to collaborate and share knowledge, so that we all become skilled experts.
This all means when huge change occurs, we are in the loop and able to offer the best guidance we can. We have seen this in the past with the advice we gave on the navigation of new IR35 regulations back in 2017, but the pandemic has been the biggest test of these principles. It is these working practices, combined with our diligent staff that has led to our best quarter to date.
