Within this group model, each hospital continues to operate under its own name, with its own local identity, leadership and statutory responsibilities. The Group provides a shared leadership structure across the three organisations, enabling complex strategic decisions to be made at Group level for the benefit of all three hospitals and the wider healthcare system.

Operational decisions continue to be taken locally, based on what is right for the communities each hospital serves.

The Group’s vision is the sustainable provision of the highest quality acute healthcare, delivered as locally as possible to patients.

For candidates, this means joining an organisation that is working at scale while remaining rooted in local communities. The Group is focused on aligning strategic ambitions, strengthening collaboration and improving experience and outcomes for patients across Norfolk and Waveney.

Working better together

The Group model is designed to support stronger collaboration across the three hospitals while maintaining local delivery and local accountability.

For senior leaders, the culture of the Group is about balance: working collectively where there is clear benefit in doing so, while respecting the distinct identity, history and context of each hospital.

Success in this environment depends on trust, collaboration and the ability to work across organisational boundaries.

Culture and inclusion

NWUHG has made a clear public commitment to standing against racism, discrimination and abusive behaviour. The Group actively embraces diversity and promotes dignity, equality, fairness and inclusion across its hospitals, services and communities.

For this role, that culture matters. The Group Director of Estates and Facilities will need to work visibly and collaboratively across all three hospital sites, building trust with colleagues, listening to different perspectives and helping teams work together through change.

This is a leadership environment where technical expertise is important, but so is judgement, emotional intelligence and the ability to bring people with you.

Working in Norfolk and Waveney

The role will be based primarily at Norfolk and
Waveney University Hospitals Group, with regular presence required across all three Group sites.

Norfolk and Waveney offers a distinctive working environment, combining city, coast, countryside, market towns and rural communities. The Group’s geography includes Norwich, King’s Lynn, Great Yarmouth, Lowestoft and the wider areas served by the three hospitals.

Norwich is a historic city with a strong cultural and independent business scene, while the wider region includes the Norfolk Broads, coastal communities, countryside and market towns. Norfolk is also home to more than 90 miles of coastline and the unique Broads National Park.

For candidates, the location offers a varied quality of life. For this role, it also brings an important leadership context: the need to understand the realities of delivering services across a geographically dispersed rural and coastal healthcare system.
