Harry Allen Joins IEG’s Public Sector Property & FM Team as Principal Consultant
After a professional career as a rugby player was cut short through injury, Harry attended a networking event organised by the RFU to help rugby players who had come to the end of their careers. It was there he made a switch into recruitment, a move that has served him well over the past 5 years. This was a similar path to recruitment as his Director, Rob Parker, demonstrating the value in these types of schemes, as well as the mental attributes built by professional sport that remain with you long after your playing career is over.
Harry has jumped at the opportunity to put his drive to good use in the recruitment world
Initially recruiting executive leadership and management roles in the higher education sector for 3 years, before moving to cover an array of FM roles across London for the past 2 years.
This is when the possibility of moving to IEG first appeared for Harry. Whilst working a mixture of FM roles in his previous position, Harry wanted to make the move into working a larger percentage of management roles across the capital projects team. He could already see IEG were leaders in this field having come up against us for various roles. He knew that we were one of only a handful of niche specialists in the market. Harry got in contact with Mike Kennedy and things moved quickly.
“It only took me 20 minutes before I was completely sold. I was immediately excited by the prospect of getting to work with and learn from Rob and the team.”
Joining in mid-December may seem like an odd time. There was the potential for markets dying down in the run-up to Christmas. This was not the case for Harry.
“It’s been full on, I’ve been given so many jobs to work on. It has been brilliant and I can immediately see the potential for the desk.”
It hasn’t just been quantity however, Harry has also noted the quality of the work.
“It’s less of a focus on getting temps out at any cost. It’s a very impressive way of working.”
Harry’s also enjoyed a culture shift. Previously experiencing larger organisation where you can start to feel like a number. The rest of the team have warmly welcomed Harry as well and he has been made to feel very welcome.
“I’ve really enjoyed how much direct contact I’ve had with founders Richard and Nick. You can tell that they really care and follow the values they have set for the business. I got a birthday and a Christmas present within 2 weeks of joining the company, so I’ve been made to feel right at home!”
We’re extremely excited to have someone with Harry’s ambition and determination join the team. We have been pleased to see he has already hit the ground running.
Focus
Harry will be mostly focusing on NHS and public sector FM roles from band 6 and upwards. And in particular, estates managers and heads of estates. In the meantime he is also spending some time working FM service provider roles.
