Welcome to your Norfolk and Waveney University Hospitals Group recruitment portal

Insight Executive is delighted to be supporting Norfolk and Waveney University Hospitals Group with the appointment of a Group Director of Estates and Facilities.

This is a rare opportunity to take on one of the most strategically significant estates and facilities leadership roles in the NHS today, supporting one of the country’s newest acute hospital Group models at a pivotal point in its development.

The role will provide executive level professional leadership across a large and complex estates and facilities portfolio spanning three acute hospital sites, major capital programmes, a first-generation PFI contract, two RAAC hospital sites within the New Hospital Programme, and a substantial facilities workforce.

A pivotal estates and facilities leadership opportunity

Norfolk and Waveney University Hospitals Group was formally established in May 2025, bringing together Norfolk and Norwich University Hospitals NHS Trust, James Paget University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and The Queen Elizabeth Hospital King’s Lynn NHS Foundation Trust under unified strategic leadership.

For estates and facilities, this is a significant moment. The Group is building a single leadership model while managing a complex and transformational estate portfolio. This includes the long-term stewardship of the NNUH PFI contract, ongoing RAAC mitigation at JPUH and QEH, New Hospital Programme interface and support, capital planning, sustainability, compliance, fire safety and the development of the Group’s first unified Estates and Facilities Strategy.

This role offers the opportunity to shape the future direction of estates and facilities across the Group, ensuring the estate supports safe, resilient, sustainable and high-quality care.

“The creation of Norfolk and Waveney University Hospitals Group gives us a significant opportunity to think differently about how our three hospitals work together for the benefit of patients, staff and communities.

This new Group Director of Estates and Facilities role will be central to that ambition. With two hospitals progressing through the New Hospital Programme, a complex existing estate and a clear need for long-term resilience, we are looking for a leader who can bring strategic vision, technical credibility and the ability to work collaboratively across all three sites.”

Why this role matters

The estate across Norfolk and Waveney University Hospitals Group is central to the future of healthcare delivery in the region.

The Group is operating across three different hospital sites, each with its own estate profile, operational pressures and long-term priorities. At the same time, it is developing a more unified way of working, strengthening shared leadership and building the foundations for greater consistency, resilience and collaboration.

The Group Director of Estates and Facilities will play a central role in this journey.
They will lead the development of the Group’s first unified Estates and Facilities Strategy, provide clear assurance to the Group Board, support major capital and infrastructure priorities, and help ensure that estates and facilities become an enabler of the best possible care.

This is an opportunity for an experienced NHS estates and facilities leader to operate at scale, influence at Board level and make a lasting contribution to one of the most important acute healthcare systems in the East of England.
